1.    You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started

·         I heard a lot of grievousness from among my previous senior about critical literacy because they need to have lot of commitment on completing this subject. I heard they always said that this is the hardest subject ever that they had. Some of the seniors said to me that they think that this subject should be postpone to the next semester and be excluded from our course. In my thought, I think that this subject should have a second part because I think that this subject is very useful to us in the near future. This subject taught us to be mindful about the way we think of others. Furthermore, this subject sometimes gives us a clue or something that very unusual about others and how do we speculate or stereotyping others. In addition, this subject also give me to think that not to be so conservative and make myself more positive thinks towards anything that I had been through in our life. Nevertheless, I have learned many things in this subject such as Euphemisms and Dysphemism, the three article about Malay Race, The Jews, and about Steve Jobs’s attitude, inductive and deductive reasoning and many others. For a conclusion, I think that this subject is very good and someday this subject has its benefits in the nearest future.

2.    Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. It is also something that most of the people fond difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

·         I think that people nowadays always make a speculation not based on the evidences or from the research but they always make speculation on their own thought. People tend to generalize some organization as bad or good based on only one person ideas, doing or attitude. Sometimes people always have been taught from the small, they need to hate this people, and they have to support this people and so on. But at the same time, they do not know that different people different behaviours and ideas. From what I have given my opinion of the stereotyping, I think that people all around the world should know that they have to change the way they think about others and think positively about how to put themselves in bringing them go in the path of good way.

3.    “If money were the only criterion by which a child’s welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much as RM 40,000 on the black market would seem set for life. For money-rich but child-poor couples, it is small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home. The cot is glided, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund filled to the brim. All that’s wanting is a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby-for-sale racket, money can indeed buy happiness. And after all, why not?” (NST, March 3, 2013)

·         I think from the above statements, we should all think that money cannot bought happiness and money is only temporary because feelings is the most important part in continuing life and I do not agree with above statement. I can see that many rich people do not have any child or cannot bear a child because of personal problems, as they cannot do that, they sometimes thinks the only way to overcome this problem is buy a children from the black market and the poor people as they need a money or do not have a good financial to raise a child anymore. I think this inhumane thing should be stopped and prevent by the people as they all know that we cannot separated the family members. Even though that they will be happy about the new families when they grow up, after they know the truth about themselves they will be angry and rebellious because he or she know that they are only adopted and not biological son or daughter. People should bear in mind on this cruel things. As I said in the first line, Money or things cannot buy happiness and do not ever to separate family members from each other.

4.   Proposition: Hollywood produces great movies, but they don’t always tell the truth even it is based on ‘True Stories”. Provide at least two (2) premises or counter arguments for the proposition

·                     I think that the proposition are very good thus very debateable because I think that I should agree with the above proposition. Firstly, there are so many Hollywood movies are very good in seducing people all around the world to watch the movies by put ‘True Story’ in the trailer or when they are starting the movies. I think that this phrase are so simple and do not have any evidence and it is with only words. Even though they have been researching them for so many years, they should not make a movies or documentary and give our own thought about a person or a civilization on movies because I think we all knows that what they have been through, what they have facing as we might offend them. For example the movie of “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”, even though that film is a true story but I think it  should not be made because the film have included some of religious offended towards Christianity, both Protestantism and Catholicism. That films too show that how the life of Elizabeth the first in getting the throne because she is the only one that can be inherit the throne the child of the previous Queen had been killed by poison. My statement have shown that western people are good in lying but cannot blind me with their “TRUE” story.

       Secondly, I think that this proposition also give me a shocked and I finally realise that western people always have their own ways of play with our mind by showing us a movies so that we can think for ourselves that this is the way of history and how history have been written of. For example the movies of “Alexander” and “Band of Brothers”. The two stories is same in genre and it is a true story but the story of Alexander who have been called The Great because of his tactical and a good strategies in conquering the Persian Empire and they have fought long from western to eastern country, and his empire are so large even the people of this modern day are very shocked and fascinate about his large empire. I think that this story are lie and not entirely truth because we all know that in that Dark Age, the people of western in that era, do not have any knowledge and knowledge are not important, and also they are only people of Islam in that day can provide the books and knowledge to them. We all know that people of western have learn about Islam and the way of Islam and getting scientific knowledge from Islam people by which we call them the Western Orientalist. They have manipulate us not declare war to us but play with our mind by making movies.

5.     You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

·         I think that Critical Literacy is very good subject because it is really makes me wonder who I am as a normal person who live in the world full of different ideas and ideological. I also think that there are so many thing I learn about the Critical Literacy such as how we defining speculation about others. From beginning I start to learn this subject I can see that this is very simple subject because I think we just need to learn article but as go through the subject for 4 months, it was really hard and it is not very simple as I thought in the first place. This subject are the hardest subject that I ever learn but in positive way of thinking, we need to learn something that hard to make sure that in the future it is very simple for us to done it. There is a phrase said that “we need to overcome hardship to make sure life is better in the future”. I suggest that this subject should be made a second part as I answer in the first question. I think the subject should be compulsory for the whole course because they too should know that Critical Literacy are the only they can change and make the even more better person as we all are normal person, we cannot change our attitude but we can change our heart that is the most crucial part in our daily life.
